Imperiled Barn

Seaside barn undercut
Foundations washing away
Imperiled

Crumbling rock slides into the surf
Slipping, sliding, loose soil sagging
The structure shudders with trembling fear
The stones it stands upon, fall one by one

Clinging gripping any handhold in turn
Relentless Neptune takes them too
The balance tips, the center surpassed
It’s posts no longer plumb
Panic frantic desperate until
That face appears, realization dawns
And laughing the barn, on the brink, unfurls
Spreads it’s wings and soars
