Now, i know

now i know
i’ve heard the story
lived the ripples of that rock
then, i could not understand
and lived on the repercussions
imagining a myth to build on
to explain
filling the unknown with fantasy
so much sand
and, beached on uncertainty
i built myself, i guilt myself
my tree has grown around that barbed wire
incorporating, adapting, assimilating
but now i know.

the sand is swept away
i’ve know it for so long, now gone
yet i do not trust the rock
label it a fable

oh gremlin, you’ve got the right idea
in ourself is the only safety
we can open the door, just a little
enough to love ourself
that is the rock, that is the strength
so much strength it’s scary

now i know
