Homely

I thought I found
The home of my dreams
Where my fantasies could become real
So I made a pact and paid my dues
And let it feel like home
But the shelter of that household
was stifling, and I grew soft
Or didn’t grow at all
(so I tell myself in hindsight)
This home began to splinter
Each little lie pulled another nail
Home collapsed
Dream crushed
Heart broken
