The storm of ’44

He ran hot
Under the collar
Happiness held no sway.
What did that ever get you?
Strict discipline, rules.
I’d like to say I knew the man
But there was no getting close, there
Hatches always battened
The only weather he had
Was storming

  1. Sounds like a man of my father’s vintage – at least in being close to the vest and not being demonstrative. But at the same time, I never ever once saw him express anger — whereas my mother was a Vesuvius!
