A short hike in Aleph’s Glen

Climbing up along the steep creek
That burbles and plunders around the stones
Climbing up over bare rock and mossy logs
Under hemlocks and rhododendrons
Climbing up until a high cirque reached
From the lip of which the water leaps
And drinks in the air with great gusty sweeps
Dapples the red rock spray

  1. I feel like this is a specific favorite place, but for me the connection to Aleph, as the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, is the acrostic Psalm 119, as I can “get drunk” on exploring the connections between the letters and the verses, giving lifelike qualities to the letters themselves. Even if I am only “drunk” and it is all make-believe:)

  2. The sound of water makes it even sweeter! You’ve evoked a wonderful place, Eric, where I would love to drink fresh water. I especially enjoyed the freshness of:
‘From the lip of which the water leaps
And drinks in the air with great gusty sweeps
    Dapples the red rock spray’.
