I will take the hint and write no more tonight

I wrote a poem long and drear
About the rut of day to day
And then how magic enlightened
Six stanzas of eight lines each
Six and eight to rhyme
And just when it was about complete
Magic took it’s turn
Intended to copy, instead delete!

Perhaps I did not give correct tribute
And sought to force the fairies to play
As if by mere words I could imbue
Ego filled like sails or balloons full
Of only wind or hot air. As if these
Words could carry you across the sea
Or put your heart in my basket
Rise and lift you, fly my dear, be free

    1. I appreciate that you reworked the poem, Eric 💜 It’s sharp, sweet and humorous. Especially love the reference to “sought to force the fairies to play.”💜 Thank you so much for participating.

PS: I m sorry if I seemed harsh earlier. I am a bit particular when it comes to form poetry.

  1. You should have hopped over to Real Toads – a form that includes 8 lines, no rhymes or meter, minimum foru stanzas and max 8. I only did two stanzas which Sanaa said was fine as well. Better short and sweet than long and on and on and on and on….
