At the end of the Raritan Valley Line

Big yellow pez bus dispensing children on corners
Trucks downshift on the interstate
Factory workers finally free flee to pubs
Shoving their shitty old cars down back roads
A man moves mahogany through his basement shop saw
Exact Tool and Level sinks into spoiled soil
Rocky fires up a race car, which echoes
Through the whole town.  Christina’s flamboyance spills
Out of her house onto the street.
The river flows endlessly like the tv
In the barber shop, and is just as concerned
With these things

  1. Laughed at the image in that opening line, but thoroughly enjoyed all of the alliteration in this poem. You’ve crafted some great characters in a few short lines; excellent! Glad you joined in and shared a bit of NJ with us. (I have a memory of travelling through your valley as a teenager.)
