My love is a rose whose thorns cut deep
My love is a stone who lies to me in sleep
My love is a basket of vegetables fresh
My love is a plaid tartan kilt
My love is a river running all year long
My love is an instrument lifted in song
But never mind all that, for cert
For her I traded the stars for dirt
Astounding kind of love. Tht bargain cuts deep.

And worth the trade, to find true love.

I feel there is a hidden meaning in this poem which at first is hidden by the the enthusiasm to possess her at all costs, but then the realisation at the end that the deal hadn’t worked e.g “For I traded the stars for dirt” Regardless of that the poem was a beautiful read.

Um, I think the speaker got the short end of the stick, a bad deal, screwed. Ugh.

perhaps if the last line read “For her I traded the phoney stars for real dirt” ??
