You may find yourself
Digging around inside yourself
Looking for your heart
And after years
find one small precious gem
Which you place in a gild cage
And shine a spotlight on it
You won’t talk about the
Alarms or the guards or the dogs
Or the fence
The meager covet, and therefore hide their wealth.
Kings put it on display.
Hang your valuables on a post by the street
Mount them on a pedestal in the public square
In Each moment I am undergoing
Open-heart surgery
In gratitude, and in Devotion
I offer up all that I have
All that I am

A heart wrenching, beautiful poem about giving yourself to people, which is really the only thing that matters.

Beautiful to see you arrive at gratitude and devotion through this journey where you are free to offer
‘all that I have
All that I am’

Only heart would demand such exchange – to remit all of its and value in each encounter. No wonder its such a strange animal.

I suspect some people do not search or find even that one small gem–of greatest value.
To find that gratitude and offer it up is very special.

You are correct I am sure. I can’t imagine a life like that though

I think as writers, and especially poets, we must continually make ourselves vulnerable and display our heart. It’s a beautiful thing and a treasure, indeed! ❤️❤️❤️

This is so gorgeous. I love the admission of the
“Alarms or the guards or the dogs
Or the fence”
And the moving way it ends:
“In Each moment I am undergoing
Open-heart surgery
In gratitude, and in Devotion
I offer up all that I have
All that I am”
